Holiday Recommendations 2010

by Game Preserve on December 7, 2010

In an effort to make our holiday shopping customers’ lives less stressful The Game Preserve, starting in 1993, has had a Holiday Recommendation list. Each year, this list always culminates around the idea our games must be first and foremost fun and new,  easy to understand, have a lot of replayability and appeal to a great many audiences. This year’s choices are no different.

Spot it –this is the fast paced card game where you are practicing your pattern recognition abilities. Some of us have better ones than others. There are four variations of the game to be played. No matter what you play, you will have a good time with this little stocking stuffer.

Publisher: Blue Orange Games

Ages: 7 to Adult

Players: 2 – 8

Playtime: 15 minutes or less

Anomia - is defined as the inability to recall a word or phrase. That’s exactly what you will suffer from with this pattern matching a word recollection game. Go ‘round the table, laying down card after card until yours matches your opponents, immediately call out the phrase or word your opponent’s card is wanting. If you get your answer blurted out before your opponent, take his stack or cards. The one with the most cards at the end wins.

Publisher: Anomia Press LLC

Ages:  10 and Up

Players: 3 – 6

Playtime: 15 minutes of less

Bubble Talk – If you’ve ever played Apples to Apples, one the best selling family games around, then you can play Bubble Talk. The Game uses the judge mechanic and similar system as Apples to Apples does. The judge places a funny picture(they’re all funny), then each player selects for a choice of five cards in his hand the best speech caption they like or what they think the judge likes. Everyone laughs as the caption cards are read aloud. The judge player picks the one he likes the best.  The player whose caption was selected then gets to be the judge.

Publisher: Technosource

Forbidden Island – For those strategy players out there, this co-op game is for you. Get your loot and get to the helipad (“Get to the Choppa”) before the island drops below the sea.

Oh Really! – From the makers of Findit, rank the categories that matters most to you then find out how you have absolutely nothing in common with everyone else. Draw random cards of different subjects, them secretly rank them from most important to least important. All the other players will do the same. For each one you have in common, gain a point.
